The PLUS  philosophy:

Almost everyone in the Pershore area delights in having such a beautiful town with its rare landmark, the famous Abbey. Set in a lovely park, the building makes the town a visitor attraction and lends its name to streets and businesses – and it is open every day of the year, often with bells ringing and flag a-flying.

A modest congregation with modest means has for many years paid to keep the Abbey warm, clean, insured, well-lit and attractive. They make visitors welcome, offer tower and history tours, & share the great acoustics for concerts and other events. Yes, they use it for services and yes, they are happy to keep this ancient monument in good shape – but the costs have escalated while income has not. So The PLUS has been created to allow anyone, churchgoers or not, to help uphold the town’s great landmark.

This secular scheme identifies the daily or weekly running costs and welcomes sponsors to uphold a period of time once a year or more frequently.  A notice, crediting that date’s upholder, will be on display. For its part, the church will (a) cover the cost of the hours used for religious purposes, and (b) keep on working to make the place more welcoming.  Also, the PCC will underwrite the total costs, meeting any shortfall, so keeping our town’s ancient monument a joy for all.

Sponsoring The PLUS ensures three more ... a PLUS for the Donor Upholder, whose business will be recognized, a PLUS for Pershore, assured of a welcoming attraction, and a PLUS for the Abbey volunteers whose constant commitment will be endorsed and encouraged.
